Is there any reason a boxspring cannot be placed directly on the floor?  Is it harmful to the mattress?

thanks

Not harmful at all, in fact it offers more "thorough" support then just having the edges sit on a steel bedframe.  The only thing you may not like is how close to the floor you are sleeping.

Thanks for asking,

Happy Sleeping

It's for my childrens bed so the height should not be an issue.

thanks for your helpful comments!
